New Year New You and More!!

8 Strategies for Success in the New Year and Life!

January is always my most busy month in the Pilates business. I think most people are making an attempt to start the year off right and for most people, health and fitness are part of their goals.

But what if there was more to your creating your perfect year/life? More than just writing a resolution?

There is, and it is about getting clear on what you want to accomplish in this New Year and decade. But lets just focus on this Year and some specific adjustments to your mindset that will make all the difference in the world.

  1. Change your environment. If you want to change your life, change your environment. Be in the places (gym, studio, outdoors) that will facilitate good health. If you want to eat more healthy, clear out the junk food in your kitchen, eat at home more often or pick healthy restaurants or quick food, never fast food!

  2. Get very specific in your goals. If you are trying to lose weight, be specific in how many pounds you want to lose, for what reason (lower cholesterol, lose inches, have more energy) and how you are going to do it as in what type of exercise program (Pilates, yoga, walking) and you will start to facilitate the process.

  3. Once you have defined your goals and your action plan, go into ACTION! Set up an appointment with that trainer, clean out your cupboards and refrigerator. Buy some new workout gear!

  4. Maintain your schedule by setting up accountability. For instance, work out with a trainer and have weekly standing appointments such as Tuesdays and Thursdays you do Pilates with your trainer. Monday and Wednesdays you could do yoga classes that you sign up for and pay in advance. Keep yourself accountable so that you will stick with it!

  5. Value your own time and do not waste it. If you have a list of goals or resolutions, every decision you make should be weighed against those goals and ask yourself the question, will this action here help me achieve my goals? Does this activity align with what I am trying to accomplish?

  6. Do not concern yourself with what other people think. Again, ask yourself, does this person and their ideas really align with my goals? Focus on YOUR goals and what is important to you.

  7. Make your diet and exercise habits a routine that works with your schedule and it will be easier to stick to it. For instance, if you are not a morning person, workout later in the day, its okay just get it done. Find the time of day when you feel you have the most energy and exercise then. If you are a morning person, get up even earlier and workout!

  8. Surround yourself with like-minded people. If you want to happy, be around happy people. If you want to be fit, hang out with people who exercise or play a sport on a regular basis. Like attracts like so be very mindful of this one as it can be an area where people can get off track. Sometimes it means letting go of some friends and making new ones and that is okay. Refer back to your goals and ask yourself, do these people share a similar mindset? You may find people asking you what you are up to and if they can join you because clearly you have figured out what it takes for SUCCESS! Congratulations on taking control of your life and have a Happy New Year!!!
